Self portrait / Auto-portrait

This is my first attempt at a realistic self portrait. I created this sketch by drawing in front of a mirror in a closet - which may account for my rather off-putting intense stare. (In using a mirror, I guess that I should've reversed the horizontal plane; however, in my case there's no big problem with hairstyles going from left to right or right to left, so I left it as it was!) The resemblance I created isn't too bad considering I only sketched for 15 minutes and I painted for about another 30 minutes. What prompted me to create a 'selfie' was a series of postings that I found in the website LINES AND COLORS (click here for link). I was fascinated to see all the different artists that created self-portraits and the styles that they used - especially the many self portraits created by Vincent Van Gogh. Its not easy drawing your own image, but then again you have an extremely cooperative subject at your disposal at any time of the day! I guess that if I were to do another self portrait, I would create an image that was a little more in character and more relaxed.

Excellent portrait, very good resemblance(referring to the picture), clear, distinctive and crisp. You look like you had a bit too much coffee, that's all :) It's very difficult, especially if you want to draw someone smiling.
