Lac Leamy Park / Le parc du Lac Leamy

On my short bike trips, I usually make a first stop at this location in Lac Leamy Park to drink some water and catch my breath. In the summer months, there are usually a lot of people here who are exercising, chatting, walking their babies or dogs, or biking like me. Its a good people-watching spot. I started this sketch on location in pencil and then finished inking it at home. I was attracted by the two big dead trees and the couple sitting in front of them.

Pavilion next to a bike path / Pavillon auprès d'une piste cyclable

My short bicycle trips this year have given me a lot of great exercise and opportunities to compose sketches and paintings. This one is of a pavilion in the Jacques Cartier Park in downtown Gatineau, Quebec (Hull sector). I've always liked its modern origami-like structure and its location overlooking the Ottawa River and the bike path. (Its also in the same location of a sketch I posted on July 1, 2015 called the Bike House / La maison du vélo.) The pavilion doesn't seem to have any particular use and no one appears to use it; there aren't even any seats inside to sit and admire the scenery. Still, I like it and think it adds a nice touch to the parklands around it.

When summer is in its glory, colours in every hue abound all over. This is a scene that I sketched at my cottage in the Upper Gatineau Valley in Quebec. The tiger lilies were out as well as the thimble-berry flowers.
