Cottage on Grand Lac Rond / Chalet au Grand Lac Rond

On Grand Lac Rond (Lac Roddick) in Quebec's Upper Gatineau Valley, there are somewhere between 400 and 500 residences on the shoreline of the lake. Some of these residences are permanent and others are seasonal. This seems like a lot but the lake is fairly large (roughly 6.5 km or 4 miles from end to end) and most of the properties are already built. This is a painting of one of the cottages on the shoreline with the forest in the background.

Sur le Grand Lac Rond (Lac Roddick) dans la Haute Vallée de la Gatineau au Québec, il y a entre 400 et 500 résidences sur les rives du lac. Certaines de ces résidences sont permanentes et d'autres sont saisonnières. Cela semble beaucoup mais le lac est assez grand (environ 6,5 km ou 4 miles d'un bout à l'autre) et la plupart des propriétés sont déjà construites. Ceci s'agit d'une peinture d'un des chalets sur le rivage avec la forêt en arrière-plan.

Bikepath along Leamy Lake creek/ Sentir du vélo au ruisseau du Lac Leamy

July is one of my favourite months of the year because of all the wildflowers in bloom. While I was biking in the Leamy Lake Park recently, I had to stop and take some pictures of all the flowers growing along the shoreline of the Leamy Lake discharge creek near Highway 50. Although most of them were ordinary wildflowers or weeds, the effect was stunning. It certainly inspired me to paint this small sketch.

Juillet est l'un de mes mois préférés de l'année à cause de toutes les fleurs sauvages en fleurs. Pendant que je faisais du vélo dans le parc du lac Leamy récemment, j'ai dû m'arrêter et prendre des photos de toutes les fleurs poussant le long du rivage du ruisseau du Lac Leamy près de l'autoroute 50. Bien que la plupart d'entre elles soient des fleurs sauvages ou des mauvaises herbes, l'effet était époustouflant. Cela m'a certainement inspiré pour peindre ce petit croquis.

Deschênes Ruins / Les ruines Deschênes

The ruins of one of Ottawa-Gatineau's earliest hydro-electrical dams can be seen from a bike path which follows the Ottawa River at the Deschênes Rapids. This dam was built in 1895 and fell in disrepair in the 1940s. The ruins lie in the middle of strong rapids and have been the subject of some controversy recently - the provincial government planned to remove the ruins but local residents petitioned the government to preserve the ruins as an historical site. My sketch was composed from reference photos that I recently took.

Les ruines d'un des premiers barrages hydroélectriques d'Ottawa-Gatineau sont visibles d'une piste cyclable qui longe la rivière des Outaouais aux rapides Deschênes. Ce barrage a été construit en 1895 et est tombé en ruine dans les années 1940. Les ruines se trouvent au milieu de forts rapides et ont fait l'objet d'une controverse récemment - le gouvernement provincial prévoyait d'enlever les ruines, mais les résidents locaux ont demandé au gouvernement de préserver les ruines en tant que site historique. Mon croquis a été composé à partir de photos de référence que j'ai prises récemment.
