Boldt Castle gazebo / Le gazebo du Château Boldt

I admit that I have a keen interest in gazebos - defined in Google as a roofed structure that offers an open view of the surrounding area, typically used for relaxation or entertainment. Gazebos give you just enough comfort and shelter in an outdoor setting where you would be otherwise threatened by rain or sun. In the past, I've sketched my own humble gazebo by the lake as well as the gazebo on Parliament Hill to commemorate fallen police officers. This time I've sketched the gazebo on Heart Island in the Thousand Islands where Boldt Castle is situated. This gazebo is located in a garden setting next to the river where you can watch the ships go by or admire the sumptuous landscape around you. When I was there, a couple of youngsters in the gazebo were absorbed with a video game and seemed oblivious to the stunning surroundings. To each his own!

J'avoue que j'ai un vif intérêt dans gazebos - défini dans Google comme une structure couverte qui offre une vue imprenable sur les environs, généralement utilisée pour la relaxation ou le divertissement. Ces pavillons vous donner juste assez de confort et un abri dans un décor naturel où vous seriez menacé sinon par la pluie ou le soleil. Dans le passé, j'ai dessiné mon humble gazebo au bord du lac ainsi que le gazebo sur la Colline parlementaire pour commémorer les policiers morts en service. Cette fois j'ai esquissé le gazebo sur l'Île Heart dans les Mille-Îles où le Château Boldt se trouve. Ce gazebo est situé dans un jardin à côté du fleuve où vous pouvez regarder les bateaux passer ou admirer le somptueux paysage autour de vous. Quand j'étais là, un couple de jeunes dans le gazebo ont été absorbés avec un jeu vidéo et semblait oublier les magnifiques environs. À chacun ses goûts!

Boldt Castle / Le Château Boldt

One of the big attractions in the Thousand Islands is Boldt Castle on Heart Island. The 120-room dream castle with its ornamental gardens, towers and other buildings was constructed by George Boldt - the owner of the famous Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City - for his wife. When she suddenly died in 1904, Boldt immediately halted all construction and the property lay abandoned until 1977 when the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority acquired the property and began restoring it. Today, you can visit the island and your entrance fee helps in the rehabilitation project. The picture above gives you an idea of the size of the property, and the picture below shows you the magnificient Entrance Arch.

Une des grandes attractions dans les Milles-Îles est le château Boldt à ​​l'ïle Heart. The Thousand Islands / Les Mille-Îsles

The Thousand Islands are a collection of islands between Canada and the United States in the Saint Lawrence River between Brockville and Kingston, Ontario - about 82 km in distance. Actually, there are over 1,800 islands in this archipelago, some large enough to hold veritable castles and others so small that they can barely support a shed. Its fantastic to take a cruise on the river zigzagging between all of these beautiful islands. In the picture above, I've sketched Huguenot Island which appears to be a family enclave; and below, I've sketched Zavikon Island which claims to have the smallest international bridge in the world!

Les Mille-Îles sont une collection d'îles entre le Canada et les États-Unis dans le fleuve Saint-Laurent entre Brockville et Kingston, Ontario - environ 82 km de distance. En fait, il y a plus de 1800 îles dans cet archipel, certains assez grand pour contenir de véritables châteaux et autres si petits qu'ils peuvent à peine soutenir un cabanon. C'est fantastique de faire une croisière sur la rivière en zigzaguant entre toutes ces belles îles. Dans l'image ci-dessus, j'ai esquissé l'île Huguenot qui semble être une enclave de famille; et ci-dessous, j'ai dessiné l'île Zavikon qui prétend avoir le plus petit pont international dans le monde!
