Dock on Lac Libby / Quai au lac Libby

This is a second sketch that I made at Lac Libby in the Eastern Townships of Québec. If you look at my previous sketch, this scene is just to the right of it, albeit a day scene. I began by making the two rough sketches of the scene and then inked them at home. This sketch is a little different than the previous one because I used a fude pen which allows you to create both thick and fine lines at once (as opposed to Micron-type pens that only create one size of line). I like using fountain pens because the ink is thicker and the line it creates flows smoother.

Voici un deuxième croquis que j'ai réalisé au lac Libby, dans les Cantons-de-l'Est, au Québec. Si vous regardez mon croquis précédent, cette scène se trouve juste à sa droite, bien qu'il s'agisse d'une scène de jour. J'ai commencé par réaliser deux esquisses vites de la scène, puis je les ai encrées à la maison. Ce croquis est légèrement différent du précédent, car j'ai utilisé un stylo à plume 'fude' qui permet de tracer des lignes épaisses et fines simultanément (contrairement aux stylos de type Micron qui ne tracent qu'une seule taille de ligne). J'aime utiliser des stylos-plume car l'encre est plus épaisse et la ligne qu'elle crée coule plus facilement.

Lac Libby moonrise / Lever de lune au lac Libby

Recently I spent some time in the Eastern Townships of Québec - a lovely area with majestic mountains, quiet lakes and small interesting villages. Among other things, I visited an abbey, a vinyard and the Three Pines Café owned by local author, Louise Penny. While we were resting at a cottage, I took some time to make a couple of rough sketches and took some reference photos as I usually do. Later when I returned home, I inked this image but when I finished, it didn't capture the night scene as I intended. So, I then scanned and coloured the inked image on my iPad Pro using Procreate to come up with this version.

J'ai récemment passé du temps dans les Cantons-de-l'Est, au Québec - une charmante région aux montagnes majestueuses, aux lacs paisibles et aux petits villages pittoresques. J'y ai notamment visité une abbaye, un vignoble et le Three Pines Café, appartenant à une auteure locale, Louise Penny. Pendant que nous nous reposions au chalet, j'ai pris le temps de faire quelques croquis et de prendre quelques photos de référence, comme à mon habitude. Plus tard, de retour chez moi, j'ai encré cette image, mais une fois terminée, elle ne reflétait pas la scène nocturne souhaitée. J'ai donc numérisé et colorié l'image encrée sur mon iPad Pro avec Procreate pour obtenir cette version.

Lac à la truite, Orford, Québec

On a recent visit to the Eastern Townships, I had a chance to walk by a lovely lake in Orford, Québec. That morning the sky was overcast and there was a slight chill in the air. I found it interesting that the reflections in the water were more pronounced than the cloudy sky. This was inspiration enough to compose this painting. Watercolour, 15.5 x 12 inches (39 x 30 cm).

Lors d'une visite récente dans l'Estrie, j'ai eu une chance de promener au bord d'un joli lac à Orford, Québec. Ce matin le ciel était couvert et il y avait un léger frisson dans l'air. J'ai trouvé intéressant que les reflets dans l'eau ont été plus prononcées que le ciel nuageux. Cela a été l'inspiration pour composer ce tableau.
