Rockliffe Park pavilion / Le pavillion au parc Rockliffe

 

Happy Canada Day! If you want to spend a couple of hours just walking around and relaxing, Rockliffe Park is just the place for you and its pavilion is a nice location to admire the commanding view over the Ottawa River towards Gatineau Point and the Gatineau hills beyond. As a kid, I used to enjoy walking there with my buddies and having an ice cream at a counter on the lower floor. Later in life, my family enjoyed picnicking there in summer and toboggan sliding in winter. Its a destination for locals to enjoy throughout the seasons. This pavilion was built in 1917 as part of the early plans to embellish the national capital. A streetcar made its way there for people to stroll through the park and listen to orchestras play inside the pavilion. Today you can visit it by bike (as I did when I made this sketch) or by car.

Si vous voulez passer quelques heures à vous promener et détendre, le parc Rockliffe est l'endroit idéal pour vous, et son pavillon est un endroit idéal pour admirer la vue sur la rivière des Outaouais vers la Pointe Gatineau et les collines de Gatineau. En tant qu'enfant, je prenais plaisir à marcher là avec mes copains pour acheter une crème glace à un comptoir à l'étage inférieur. Plus tard dans la vie, ma famille a aimé y pique-niquer en été et faire du toboggan en hiver. C'est une destination pour les gens de la région de profiter au fil des saisons. Ce pavillon a été construit en 1917 dans le cadre des premiers projets d'embellissement de la capitale nationale. Un tramway s'y rendait pour permettre les gens de se promener dans le parc et écouter les orchestres jouer dans le pavillon. Aujourd'hui, vous pouvez le visiter en vélo (comme je l'ai fait lorsque j'ai fait ce croquis) ou en voiture.
