Black Sheep concert / Concert au Mouton noir

It's extremely rare that I'll spend time in a bar, but recently when I found out that singer-songwriter Ian Tamblyn was performing at the Black Sheep in Wakefield (Québec) I made an exception. Ian Tamblyn has recorded over 30 albums in his career beginning in 1976. While I certainly haven't heard all of them, I'm impressed by the quiet songs in one of his albums, Walking in the Footsteps - Celebrating the Group of Seven. At the Black Sheep, he played his songs in a folk-rock fashion to a small but dedicated and enthusiatic crowd. I discretely took a couple of photos at the concert and created this ink drawing afterwards. I liked the ambiance of the Black Sheep. It reminded me a little of Le Hibou (not the restaurant next door but the legendary coffee house on Sussex Street in Ottawa that had concerts by the like of Joni Mitchell, Bruce Cockburn, Kris Kristofferson, Neil Young, Muddy Waters and more).  I liked the intimate ambiance in the room. It's a big difference from listening to singers in large concert halls even if you can manage to get a seat up front.

Il est extrêmement rare que je fréquente un bar, mais récemment, apprenant que l'auteur-compositeur Ian Tamblyn chantait au Black Sheep à Wakefield (Québec), j'ai fait une exception. Ian Tamblyn a enregistré plus de 30 albums depuis le début de sa carrière en 1976. Bien que je ne les aie certainement pas tous écoutés, je suis impressionné par les chansons intimistes de l'un de ses albums, « Walking in the Footsteps - Celebrating the Group of Seven ». Au Black Sheep, il a interprété ses chansons dans un style folk-rock devant un audience restreint mais enthousiaste et passionné. J'ai discrètement pris quelques photos pendant le concert et réalisé ce dessin à l'encre par la suite. J'ai beaucoup aimé l'ambiance du Black Sheep. Elle m'a un peu rappelé Le Hibou (non pas le restaurant voisin, mais le café-concert légendaire de la rue Sussex à Ottawa, qui a accueilli des artistes comme Joni Mitchell, Bruce Cockburn, Kris Kristofferson, Neil Young, Muddy Waters et bien d'autres). J'ai apprécié l'atmosphère intime de la salle. C'est très différent que d'écouter des chanteurs dans de grandes salles de concert, même si l'on parvient à obtenir une place aux premiers rangs.
