The Chaudière Bridge in downtown Ottawa-Gatineau closed this week because of the flooding of the Ottawa River. The river almost touches the bottom span of this one hundred-year old bridge. (The first bridge at this location was built in 1828 and replacements were built in 1844, 1889 and 1919.) The flooding this year is unimaginable - it's even worse than the catastrophic flooding of 2017. To give you some idea of the force of the river, the water flow at the Chaudière Falls is 7500 m3 per second - three times greater than Niagara Falls! It is forecasted that the flooding will last for a couple of more weeks due to the vast volume of water in our watershed basin.

Le pont des Chaudières au centre-ville d’Ottawa-Gatineau a fermé ses portes cette semaine en raison de l’inondation de la rivière des Outaouais. La rivière touche presque ce vieux pont de cent ans. (Le premier pont à cet endroit a été construit en 1828 et des remplacements ont été construits en 1844, 1889 et 1919.) L'inondation de cette année est inimaginable - c'est encore plus pire que l'inondation catastrophique de 2017. Pour vous donner une idée de la force de la rivière, le débit des chutes de la Chaudière est de 7500 m3 par seconde, soit trois fois plus que les chutes du Niagara! On prévoit que les inondations dureront encore quelques semaines en raison du volume important d'eau dans notre bassin versant.
