Rapids at Limbour / Rapides à Limbour

A few kilometers from my home on the northern end of the city of Gatineau, there are some lively rapids on the Gatineau River near Limbour. I've painted them before in the late winter or early spring when there was still snow on the ground. A few days ago when I was stuck in traffic next to these rapids, I pulled out my trusty camera and took a few reference photos, thinking that this could make a good subject for a sketch or painting. Later when I had some free time, I sketched the scene in ink and watercolour. Although I didn't want to exaggerate the greens, they are very strong this time of year and I wanted to bring out the full effect. I like this place. Its a small oasis of tranquility in an urban setting.

A quelques kilomètres de ma maison au nord de la ville de Gatineau, il y a quelques rapides sur la rivière Gatineau près de Limbour. Je les ai déjà peinturé avant la fin de l'hiver ou au début du printemps, quand il y avait encore de la neige sur le terrain. Il y a quelques jours quand j'ai été coincé dans le trafic à côté de ces rapides, j'ai sorti mon fidèle appareil photo et pris quelques photos de référence, en pensant que cela pourrait faire un bon sujet pour un dessin ou une peinture. Plus tard, quand j'ai eu un peu de temps libre, j' ai esquissé la scène à l'encre et à l'aquarelle. Bien que je ne veux pas exagérer les verts, ils sont très forts cette période de l'année et je voulais faire ressortir le plein effet. J'aime cet endroit. C'est une petite oasis de tranquillité dans un cadre urbain.
