A few weeks ago, I spotted a magnolia warbler in our cherry tree - such a lovely tiny bird with a clear song. It made me recall a past attempt to paint the same bird. Sure enough, after some rummaging I found a sketch on a sheet of watercolour paper which I had left incomplete years ago. I think that being in the same season inspired me to finish this painting. Another inspiration was John James Audubon's masterly painting of the same bird (see below) in his Birds of America publication (although he called the warbler a 'Black and Yellow Warbler'.)

Il y a quelques semaines, j'ai aperçu une fauvette à tête cendrée dans notre cerisier – un si joli petit oiseau au chant clair. Cela m'a rappelé une ancienne tentative de peindre ce même oiseau. Effectivement, après quelques recherches, j'ai retrouvé une esquisse sur une feuille de papier aquarelle que j'avais laissée inachevée il y a des années. Je pense que le fait d'être à la même saison m'a incitée à terminer cette peinture. Une autre source d'inspiration fut la magistrale peinture de ce même oiseau par John James Audubon (voir ci-dessous) dans son ouvrage « Birds of America » (bien qu'il l'appelle « Fauvette noire et jaune »).
