The Tin House / La maison de fer-blanc

I mentioned the Tin House Courtyard in a previous posting. Here's an ink and watercolour sketch that I made from a photo (see below) of the original Tin House built in the 1860s at 136 Guigues Avenue in the Lowertown section of Ottawa. The building has an interesting history which is recounted in this link by Heritage Canada. The original structure was built by a tinsmith named Honoré Foisy who painstakingly created it as a sort of advertisement for his buisness. After the building was demolished in the 1960s, an Ottawa artist named Art Price collected pieces of the structure and restored the facade with other pieces from demolished buildings. The facade was installed on the wall of the present courtyard in 1973 and enjoyed great popularity.  In the early 2000s, the structure was becoming damaged by oxidation and had to be restored once again. I've always been amazed by this structure because it preserves a part of the local history and because it's a beautiful creation by two talented artists.

J'ai mentionné la cour de la maison de fer-blanc dans un article précédent. Voici un dessin à l'encre et à l'aquarelle que j'ai réalisé à partir d'une photo (voir ci-dessous) de la maison en fer blanc originale construite dans les années 1860 au 136, avenue Guigues, dans la partie Basseville d'Ottawa. Le bâtiment a une histoire intéressante qui est relatée dans ce lien par Patrimoine Canada. La structure originale a été construite par un ferblantier nommé Honoré Foisy, qui l'a soigneusement créée pour en faire une sorte de publicité. Après la démolition du bâtiment dans les années 1960, un artiste d'Ottawa, Art Price, a rassemblé des morceaux de la structure et a restauré la façade avec d'autres morceaux de bâtiments démolis. La façade a été installée sur le mur de la cour actuelle en 1973 et jouissait d'une grande popularité. Au début des années 2000, la structure était endommagée par l'oxydation et a dû être restaurée une fois de plus. Cette structure m'a toujours émerveillée car elle conserve une partie de l'histoire locale et constitue une belle création de deux artistes talentueux.
