Ottawa Byward Market / Marché By d'Ottawa

I made this sketch at the Byward Market in Ottawa last Saturday as part of the 61st World Wide Sketchcrawl. The Ottawa chapter of the Urban Sketchers Organization arranged this sketching event which attracted some 20 individuals who braved chilly 7 C temperatures and gusty winds to draw scenes in the Market. I managed to draw two scenes. For my first one, I chose a location in front of the totem pole at the Ottawa School of Art on George Street. I found that the pleine air sketching was fairly challenging - I had to wear enough clothing to keep warm but have some comfort to be able to draw and paint; I had to find a spot to sit which was outside the flow of pedestrian traffic; and I had to keep a few snowflakes from spoiling my painting! It was all great fun however. I'm thankful to artist, Cindi Moynahan-Foreman for organizing the event.

J'ai fait ce croquis au marché By à Ottawa le samedi dernier dans le cadre du 61e Sketchcrawl mondiale. La section d'Ottawa des Urban Sketchers (le groupe en ligne de « croqueurs urbains ») a organisé cet événement de dessin qui a attiré une vingtaine de personnes qui ont affronté des températures glaciales et des vents en rafales pour dessiner des scènes du marché. J'ai réussi à dessiner deux scènes. Pour ma première scèene, j'ai choisi un emplacement en face du totem en face de l'École d'art d'Ottawa sur la rue George. J'ai trouvé que le dessin en plein air était assez difficile - je devais porter suffisamment de vêtements pour rester au chaud mais à la même temps avoir un certain confort pour dessiner et peindre ; je devais trouver un endroit pour m'asseoir qui était en dehors du flux de la circulation piétonne ; et j'ai dû empecher quelques flocons de neige de gâcher ma peinture! C'était très amusant cependant. Je suis reconnaissant à l'artiste, Cindi Moynahan-Foreman d’avoir organisé cet événement.
