Central Experimental Farm / La Ferme expérimentale centrale

This was the first sketch I did a couple of weeks ago when I visited the Experimental Farm one evening. This is a lovely spot next to the pond and under the canopy of tall pine trees with a large number of hostas in the foreground. After I began, a family and a photographer arrived and started to pose in various locations right in front of me. 'Look', the father said, 'there's someone doing a watercolour painting.' He said this in the same way he'd say, 'Look, there's a groundhog digging a hole.' It didn't bother me but I decided to move on to another spot shortly afterwards.

I never bothered about people making comments or standing inthe way. Drawing is always better than taking pictures, it's filtered through you, not through a lens. Love these white spots of the Hosta plants, they make the painting very lively.
