The Confederation Building / L'Édifice de la Confédération

The Parliamentary Precinct in Ottawa is composed of several buildings, this sketch being one known as the Confederation Building. It was built between 1927 and 1932, and is approximately 44 m high. My sketch was made from a photo I took in the 1970s when it was still called the Confederation BUILDINGS perhaps because its many wings accommodated different organizations - including the Department of Agriculture and the Boys Scouts of Canada. When it became solely a parliamentary office building, its name was altered to simply BUILDING and the inscription over the entrance was made bilingual. Like many of the other older buildings on Parliament Hill, its exterior is adorned with a few interesting stone sculptures. What I enjoyed while working there was the vista from the ninth floor which looked over the Ottawa River and the Gatineau Hills - it's too bad I didn't sketch then.

La Cité parlementaire à Ottawa est composé de plusieurs bâtiments, cette esquisse étant l'un connu sous le nom édifice de la Confédération. Il a été construit entre 1927 et 1932, et est d'environ 44 m de haut. Mon croquis a été réalisé à partir d'une photo que j'ai pris dans les années 1970 quand il était encore appelé les ÉDIFICES Confédération peut-être parce que ses nombreuses ailes accueillent différentes organisations - y compris le ministère de l'Agriculture et les Scouts du Canada. Quand il est devenu uniquement un immeuble de bureaux parlementaire, son nom a été modifié pour ÉDIFICE et l'inscription à l'entrée a été faite bilingue. Comme beaucoup d'autres bâtiments plus anciens sur la Colline du Parlement, son extérieur est orné de quelques sculptures en pierre intéressantes. Ce qui m'a plu quand je travaillais dans cette édifice, c'était la vue du neuvième étage qui donnait sur la rivière des Outaouais et les collines de la Gatineau - c'est dommage que je ne faisais pas des esquisses à ces années-là.
