Between the golden glory of autumn and the first blankets of snow of winter, there is a period when the landscape is rather gray. A bit stark but still enjoyable. I recently finished a painting that I began of the Lac Leamy Park during this special 'season'. During one of my regular walks in the park, I took some reference photos of this large tree and some inukshuks that someone had created on the shoreline. (See photos below for a closeup.) Inukshuks are stones which the Inuit arranged one on top of the other to mark a special location. I consider them an artform. They are many locations in Ottawa-Gatineau where you can visit them but this one was a bit of a nice surprise to me which inspired me to make this painting.

Entre la gloire doré de l'automne et les premières couches de neige de l'hiver, il y a une période où le paysage est plutôt gris. Un peu dur mais toujours agréable. J'ai récemment terminé une peinture que j'ai commencée du parc du lac Leamy pendant cette 'saison' spéciale. Au cours d'une de mes promenades régulières dans le parc, j'ai pris des photos de référence de ce grand arbre et de quelques inukshuks que quelqu'un avait créés sur la rive. (Voir les photos ci-dessous pour un gros plan.) Les inukshuks sont des pierres que les Inuits ont disposées les unes sur les autres pour marquer un endroit spécial. Je les considère comme une forme d'art. Il y a de nombreux endroits à Ottawa-Gatineau où vous pouvez les visiter, mais celui-ci a été une bonne surprise pour moi, ce qui m'a inspiré pour faire cette peinture.
