Robin perched on a fruit tree / Rouge-gorgue perché sur un arbre fruitier

This year I saw my first flock of robins early in February. That was an encouraging sign of spring but the really good springtime weather only started in late March / early April. Robins may not be true harbingers of spring but it still feels good to see them. This painting is based on a photo that Don Wiggans took and posted in the Facebook group 'Bird Watchers of Ottawa and the Surrounding Areas'.

Cette année, j'ai vu mon premier troupeau de rouges-gorges au début de février. C'était un signe encourageant du printemps, mais le très beau temps printanier n'a commencé qu'en fin mars / début avril. Les rouges-gorges ne sont peut-être pas de véritables annonciateurs du printemps, mais cela fait quand même du bien de les voir. Cette peinture est basée sur une photo que Don Wiggans a prise et publiée dans le groupe Facebook « Bird Watchers of Ottawa and the Surroundings Areas ».

Our cottage / Notre chalet

Our cottage sits quietly on a two-acre plot of land next to a lake. The forest which surrounds this home is also home to a wide variety of birds – some transitory and others permanent like the blue jays, chickadees, and downy woodpeckers as I've painted in this illustration. I once asked a neighbour if he had some favourite spot to go bird watching. He replied that he lets them come to him. That’s the beauty of a cottage in a forest.

Notre chalet est situé au calme sur un terrain de deux acres à côté d'un lac. La forêt qui entoure cette maison abrite également une grande variété d'oiseaux - certains transitoires et d'autres permanents comme les geais bleus, les mésanges et les pics mineur comme j'ai peint dans cette illustration. Une fois, j'ai demandé à un voisin s'il avait un endroit préféré pour observer les oiseaux. Il a répondu qu'il les laissait venir à lui. C'est la beauté d'un chalet dans une forêt.
