The Boboli Gardens in Florence (Italy) is mostly composed of topiary (sculpted) trees and shrubs, statutes and fountains, and trees aligned in linear or geometric shapes. This vast 111 acre garden is organized into sections with different themes or attractions - for example there's the Cypress Lane, the Amphitheatre, the Island Pond, and the Fountain of the Mostaccini. It's a unique pleasure to quietly explore all these different areas and to discover special plants, birds, ornaments, and curios. My sketch is of something I stumbled upon on my wanderings - a scene right out of Arthur Rackham's imagination with trees looking like characters out of a fairy tale. Even though it was mid-day, it was an eerie walk down this enchanted path.

Ce vaste jardin de 111 acres est organisé en sections avec des thèmes ou attractions - par exemple, il y a la Promenade de cyprès, l'Amphithéâtre, l'étang de l'île, et la fontaine du Mostaccini. C'est un vrai plaisir d'explorer tranquillement tous ces différents domaines et de découvrir des plantes spéciales, des oiseaux, ou des choses uniques. Mon dessin s'agit de quelque chose que j'ai trouvé par hasard - une scène sortie de l'imagination d'Arthur Rackham avec des arbres ressemblant à des personnages d'un conte de fées. Même si c'était la mi-journée, ma promenade était étrange dans cette voie enchanté.

Great drawing. The nice thing about this one is the contrast between bottom an top, and that the linework along the path opens up (less like Hergé's "Klare lijn" technique), which makes the colours come alive more.
