The skating season is almost over on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa. Perhaps a cold snap forecasted for this weekend may permit one last hurrah, but my feeling is that spring is just around the corner. Most people have been very happy with the results on the canal this season - last year, it was barely open for ten days and the year before, it was completely closed. The sketch I made is of the park around Patterson Creek (which is a part of the Rideau Canal system). Many people lace up their skates here and join the thousands of skaters on the main skateway which is 8 km long (almost 5 miles). This year, a snowy pathway has also been added to the skateway which permits joggers and pedestrians to enjoy the canal.

La saison de patinage est presque terminée sur le canal Rideau à Ottawa. Peut-être qu'une vague de froid annoncée pour cette fin de semaine permettra une dernière chance de patiner, mais j'ai le sentiment que le printemps est à nos portes. La plupart des gens sont très satisfaits des résultats obtenus sur le canal cette saison - l'année dernière, il n'a été ouvert que dix jours et l'année précédente, il était complètement fermé. Le croquis que j'ai fait représente le parc autour du ruisseau Patterson (qui fait partie du réseau du canal Rideau). De nombreuses personnes chaussent leurs patins ici et se joignent aux milliers de patineurs sur la patinoire principale qui fait 8 km de long (près de 5 miles). Cette année, un sentier enneigé a également été ajouté à la patinoire, ce qui permet aux joggeurs et aux piétons de profiter du canal.
