Magnolia liliiflora

This is a painting of a magnolia in our front yard. I believe it is a liliiflora. It flowers later than our star magnolia and is much smaller but with flashy flowers. My painting began as a watercolour but I was dissatisfied with my results - my background was too dark and the flowers weren't the right shade. I wasn't able to make these corrections with watercolour and I wasn't familiar enough with gouache. So I scanned it and touched it up on my iPad Pro with Procreate. It was a simple process to lighten up the background, darken my lines and alter the shade of the flowers. And it was a lot of fun!

Ceci est une peinture d'un magnolia dans notre cour. Je crois que c'est une liliiflora. Il fleurit plus tard que notre magnolia étoilé et est beaucoup plus petit mais avec des fleurs brillantes. Ma peinture a commencé comme une aquarelle mais je n’étais pas satisfaite de mes résultats: mon fond était trop sombre et les fleurs n’étaient pas de la bonne teinte. Je n'ai pas pu faire ces corrections à l'aquarelle et je ne connaissais pas assez la gouache. Je l'ai donc scannée et retouchée sur mon iPad Pro avec Procreate. C'était un processus simple pour éclaircir l'arrière-plan, assombrir mes lignes et modifier la teinte des fleurs. Et c'était très amusant!
