Great blue heron taking flight / Le grand héron bleu prenant son vol

The great blue heron can be found throughout North America from the 60th latitude down to Central America. It's a spectacular bird with a wingspan up to 200 cm (79 inches), yet it only weighs 2.5 kg (6 pounds). While there is a colony near my home in Gatineau and many around our cottage at the lake, I haven't been able to take many good photographs of them. This sketch was made from a photo that a friend of mine took. He caught the heron just as it was taking flight with its massive wings spread out. It was hard to resist sketching it.

Le grand héron bleu se trouve en Amérique du Nord à partir de la 60e latitude jusqu'à l'Amérique centrale. C'est un oiseau spectaculaire avec une envergure jusqu'à 200 cm (79 pouces), mais il pèse seulement 2,5 kg (6 livres). Bien qu'il y ait une colonie près de chez moi à Gatineau et beaucoup autour de notre chalet au lac, je n'ai pas pu prendre de nombreuses bonnes photographies. Ce croquis a été réalisé à partir d'une photo que mon ami a pris. Il a attrapé le héron tout comme il était en train de voler avec ses énormes têtes écartées. C'était difficile de résister à l'esquisser.

Garden gnome in summer / Gnome de jardin en été

I've been meaning to sketch this scene of my garden gnome for a while. Well, at least since summer has arrived. I made an earlier version of my gnome in January when the weather wasn't very friendly and my gnome was buried in snow. By the look on his face, he's much happier now.

Je voulais dessiner cette scène de mon gnome de jardin pendant un certain temps. Eh bien, au moins depuis l'arrivée de l'été. J'ai fait une version antérieure de mon gnome en janvier quand le temps n'était pas très amical et mon gnome a été enterré dans la neige. Par le regard de son visage, il est beaucoup plus heureux maintenant.
